Outlining
So outlining. The very word sends some writers running for their life. And well, I hate to break it to you, outlining is an invaluable tool for writing anything that takes time.
Why is it that so many writers hate it? Because it's just to hairy of a problem. Take an mpreg story for example. You have 9 months of important events to write about. Not only will have to write about the standard drama of fictional life, but also about standard pregnancy, and find some way for your uke to have gotten knocked up. That's three seperate subplots that have to be combined into one HUGE plot.
But of course, there is a solution. Create a time line. Now, timelines on their own are a bit of a hairy mess, 'specially if your a perfectionist like me and like to see how big of gaps there are between important events. However there are some basic tools that make this process as painless as possible (which still feels a bit like child birth, by the way, it just numbs it a bit). The simpliest, and most useful of which is already on your computer. Excel.
I have this lovely little tutorial here that I'm following to create a timeline for one of my nano fics. So far it's going swimmingly.
On the note of Nanowrimo, anyone else doing it?

Twilight Rant
So once upon a time I heard about this unknown book called Twilight. I heard about it from a Harry Potter fan, whom I have great respect for, so I decided it's probably a good book. Then another friend dragged me out to see the movie. I was somewhat excited, after all I was leaving the house to hang out at the mall. In fact I even promised myself that if it was good I'd read the book.
For those who are wondering. I haven't read the book yet.
But Twilight pisses me off. Just from the plot description it sounds like some 13 year old's vampire fanfic. I mean sparkle? WTF? As a proud creator of a vampire OC I am disgusted. Half the charm of a vampire is that they gave up sunrises, sunsets, and normal food for eternal life! Now they can see the sun rise and set, why? It's original yes, but there is a reason why no one else has EVER had a sparkly vampire. Besides, I can't use the word sparkly to describe a boy. It makes it seem too yaoi.
Bella on the other hand pissed me off to. Just by watching the movie I could tell she was a Mary Sue. I mean come on! She moves to a new school, all the guys love her, she's "average," she fixes everyone's relationship problems, and she has a werewolf and a vampire after her heart. Why? WHY!?
I was browsing flairs on facebook and one said "who cares? It'll be dead in 5 years anyways." Unfortunately I don't think it will. Twilight has left such a mark on teenage culture that it will stick around. There are so many fangirls and so many haters that it will never be forgotten. And the whole Team "insert character name here" will stick too. It's kinda ingenious. Please tell me the Twilight fangirls didn't create that part?
That's really all of my rant. Life's kicking my ass at the moment, so I don't get much time to update. Sorry!

A little personal rant time...
If you think something is lame you don't have to say so! And putting a little smiley after it doesn't help! Honestly, remember your mother's advice if you can't say something nice, don't say it at all!
So to explain where that little rant came from, I had a story idea on the way out to band practice. Not really a story, but just a character, and three questions that sum him up. Basically he's a vampire that contracted AIDS by biting someone. Now, it has been months since my good friend or I have had any sort of good inspiration. (The most memorable night of inspiration added 8 prompts to my prompt list, that was three months ago.) So I was quite excited to tell her about it. Well... I forgot one thing. This friend is a vampire fanatic, and I know next to nothing about vampires.
So I explained the vampire to her. Her response: "lol that's lame XD"... and then she continued to totally tear apart the character, and ended with, "but that's an interesting idea."
Now, the cherry on the top of this? Yesterday I gave her advice on how to deal with someone calling her dumb. And she goes and says this, and URG! Oh so sorry I don't obsess over vampires, and that I don't have time to research them. NEXT TIME I have an idea, I won't tell you till I've researched it... or perhaps just not tell you at all!
To conclude I had to leave the conversation. Her words really turned my mind upside down and I couldn't deal with it. I'll have to go back later and tell her why I disappeared... maybe...
EDIT: Yeah for quick fights. I finally went back to the chat, and asked her to never preface a response to an idea with " lol that's lame XD." Turns out she wasn't talking about my story idea, just that it would suck to be that vampire. So I feel a bit better now. ^.^ And yeah. I'm good. ^.^

When life gives you lemons... write smut!
"Writing smut is an exercise in combining pointless sentences and cliche adjective in an attempt to make a simple listing of actions a story." - Yaoisakka
Okay, okay, cliche title I know. Please forgive me, I'm ill.
As you might have guessed today's topic is smut writing. Why? Because I've been beating my brains out trying to finish a smut piece that just refuses to be written, also because I saw a quote I once said,
and finally because I've been reading weepingcock, a livejournal community that is dedicated to bad smut.
So hopefully you read the quote at the top. If not you might want to, because that's what today's topic is!
I honestly believe this quote to be true. When you write smut you are honestly writing pure action. Very rarely will your MC being coherent enough to actually say something crucial to the plot. So your scene will probably consist of action, moans, and very very purple prose.
After all, for those of us who are virgins writing smut, or in the sense of yaoi, aren't guys and don't know what a prostrate feels like, all we know is what we've read/watched. So we recycle scenes, phrases and descriptions in our own words to recreate our own scenes. (Please don't misunderstand what I just said. I was not attempting to call anyone a plagerist.)
So what can you do? How can you keep your list of actions from being a list of actions? Well, I do in fact have a few tips.
- Watch sentense legnth - One thing that tends to happen is that we writers try to squish actions into the same sentense. Don't! If you just had a complex sentense describing how his tongue ran over the exposed flesh as his hands carded through dark ebony hair, then the next sentense should just describe how one hand floated down to tweak a nipple, now how his tongue traveled lower, as did his hands, tweaking both nipples as they passed. (Is it bad that I can't write smut when I try, but when giving examples I'm somehow writing it?) Keep long setenses next to short ones and vice versa.
- Look out for repetition - This comes in two categories. Repetition of names, and repetition of descriptions. As a general rule, I only mention each character's name once per paragraph. Why? Because you don't want:
Sora moaned as Riku swallowed his cock. Sora couldn't believe that Riku was that skillful with his tongue. Hand's burried in Riku's hair as Sora threw his head back with a gutteral moan. Sora finally pulled Riku back up for a heated kiss.
See? Not pretty. Try substituting the silverette, the shorter male, and simply he, instead. As for the repetition of descriptions, basically just be aware of the scene that's being described. Don't repeat descriptions, colors, and even try to avoid repetion of nouns. For example if you just called a phalus a cock a sentence ago refer to it as a member, manhood, length or even dick, just not as a cock. It just makes the prose prettier. - Keep one character's POV per paragraph - Some might be confused. Some might skip this section because they think it only applies to First person stories. But it doesn't. What I mean is that when you start writing a paragraph you pick a passive character and an active character. The active tends to be the first person mentioned, so in the excerpt above it's Sora. Notice how every sentense is about Sora? Riku is just mentioned so we know what's happening to Sora. Wouldn't it be weird/bad if it was:
Sora moaned as Riku swallowed his cock. Riku eagerly swallowed, trying to take in as much of Sora as he could. Hand's burried in Riku's hair as Sora threw his head back with a gutteral moan. Riku felt the cock slip from his mouth as Sora pulled him back up for a heated kiss.
See what I mean? It changes the focus too much. Find a character, and stick with him for a few paragraphs before the other one takes control!
So that's about it for today. Hopefully I'll be going to a convention this weekend, as long as I feel better tomorrow. -crosses fingers- And perhaps then I'll be able to write some more smut and finally finish one of the 10 or so stories that are just sitting around waiting for smut...

We do three types of jobs here...

Hello there! For once I'm actually updating my blog early! I know, miricles do happen. As you might have guessed, the topic of today's post, which I am skipping church to write, is the picture to the left.
As yaoi writers/fans we find three types of jobs to be effective at gaining readers, good and cheap, fast and cheap, or good and fast.
If you are looking for a good and cheap story, then expect it to update every month or so. If you want one that's fast and cheap, then there will be grammar mistakes, spelling errors, and some lovely OOCness. But if you want it to be good and fast, expect to be peroosing the local book stores manga self, and paying $10 for a yaoi novel.
Why? Because it's the way we as writers work. I personally write 4000 word chapters most of the time. They take me a few months to complete. Some writers, like Yami Dragoness of Light (I think) Manage to update every single day (or twice in a day) but write shorter chapters (I believe her's come out to be about 1000 a day. And I absolutely recomend you go to read her. She wrote a wonderful 5980 mpreg that I just finished reading, and I'm currently working through her Squalo/Xanxus mpreg. Both are quite good!) As far as I've been able to tell this is the general order of thing.
So pick one and deal with it. People will love you either way. Now I must go get to work. I have 3 stories on my to do list (one is due this tuesday, one was due 2 months ago, and one has a plot bunny biting my heels), so I must leave. Adios!

Practice makes perfect, but please hid your garbage
While I've written many a smut pieces before, never have a written a blow job, however the final bit of smut in my fic requires one character sucking off his partner, something he has never done before. And that's it. That's my problem. I'm totally uncomfortable writing it because I've never written it before.
It actually brings back memories of my first time writing yaoi. I was writing two original characters from my first nanowrimo novel. These two character intrigued me. They weren't gay when I first decided to throw them in, in fact they were only supposed to be there for a scene, but then they came out and demanded a sex scene.
It was bloody awful. I didn't know how anal sex worked. I didn't know what anything looked like. I didn't know how it should feel. I was totally lost. Luckily there are only three people who've seen this story, me, and my two friends who told me it sucked.
My point is, that everyone has that first sex scene. They have their first time for their bishie's to try something new. Their first time to write a fetish, or a threesome. Their first time to write garbage.
In my opinion you shouldn't post your "first time." Chances are that even if you've been reading yaoi smut for years it won't come out well. Writing smut takes practice. So practice some, and throw out the stinky garbage. I'm sure you're bishie's won't mind as long as they keep getting laid.

The importance of Diction
This sparked an idea. Have you ever realized how awkward a word naked is? Try to say it. It stops in your throat. However there's another word for the idea. Nude. But it's also awkward. Both those words just make you want to giggle. Which brings us to the topic of the day. Diction.
As writers, we use words. So therefore our word choice is extremely important. Every word has a conotation, or feelings that people attach to them. For example house is more impersonally than home, as is Mother to mum or mom. So if a character calls their mother Mother then there is more tension than if they called her mom or even mum. It effects the entire mood of the story. So hopefully you can see why it's important.
This topic gets more specific than that though. Occasionally in yaoi, a story will require a sex scene. For most writers this is quite a daunting task. After all, smut is pure action. You don't have time for a character to spend paragraph angsting, or to recite an epic poem. If you do, then the other character is doing something wrong.
But more specifically smut has words that are almost necissary to use. If you're trying to write hot sex you can't use some euphamisms, such as pee-pee. It'll make your readers fall out of their chair laughing at the stupidity. You have to be comfortable enough to use words such as cock, dick, length, member, groan, moan, pant, cry out, ass, anus, anal, come, nipple, or phalus. (Surpirisingly enough the word Penis still causes laughter. I don't know why...)
So choose your words carefully. They effect everything about your writing.

The Most Ignored/important Thing
As the time of Tsuna's death drawls near, he tells his lover of his impeding doom. But what happens when all negotiations go Wrong...
Sounds interesting doesn't it? I'm sure it could be a lovely fic. It could be the best damn fic the world has ever seen. But I would not read it.
Why? Just look at that summary. The title isn't capitalized right. The description isn't spell checked and I can promise you that "Wrong" shouldn't be capitalized. And the whole rhetorical question makes it sound like they don't know what they're doing.
Now before someone starts complaining about me tearing apart someone summery and title, let me tell you something. "Don't Do It," doesn't exist yet. This is a description I wrote in five seconds after looking at my prompt list and choosing a random one. And I did it to make a point.
Too many times we spend hours or even days working on a fanfic, to blow over the title and description. Why do we do this? Because we are tired of working in the story, and we want to get it out to the world so we can collect our glorious reviews and favs.
But the summary and title are the first things people will see of the story. They are what people will judge your fic on before they take the time to open it and read the first paragraph.
In my oh so humble opinion, you should present three things to an audience - Title, Summary, basic warnings.
- Title - The title should almost be an initial summary of the story. It should have meaning, and depth. If you have a major motif working its way through your story then try to fit it into the title, or even call the story by it. Did a song inspire it, or happen to match up wiht the plot of the story almost exactly? Then you can use the song title. For example I was working on a Sora mpreg where almost every phrase of the popular Panic! At the Disco song "Camisado" fit one character or another. Phantom-chick's Poison is another good example of this. She titled her story Poison, because that song inspired it I believe. Or a good phrase. For example one lovely pwp I wrote was called "Gorgeously Warm and Delicious" - which just so happened to be a phrase I used to describe one of my characters. Another one is "Like Father Like Child," which is related to the last phrase of the story - "Yes, looks just like her father." The title should be inventive, but most importantly formatted right. Capitalize all major words, and PLEASE SPELL THEM CORRECTLY! No one wants to see "A tail of Love and Hattered"
- Summary - Be creative. Be unique. But most importantly - Be correct. Reread over your summary after you've written it. If you spell something wrong in the summary then people will think you probably spelled plenty of things wrong in the fic. Try not to give away the joke, or major plot twist, but at least tell the reader what to expect. And don't be cheesy about it. Avoid cliches such as "love at first sight," and "deep dark secret." Also avoid the rhetorical questions. There is no reason to ask what will happen. That's what the reader should be asking.
- Warnings - Some people might claim that you don't want warnings, because then people will know what they're opening up. But you want basic warnings on the summary so that people will know what they're opening up. Often times when I start hunting for fics to read I am look for particular phrases depending on my mood. Often times these will be PWP, Lemon, Mpreg, or Fluff. It's so much quicker if these words on on the summary at the end so I don't have to scan a description, or open a fic. By all means have another warning section in the fic, but please put a few out there so we know what we're looking at before we look.

The way Non-con should be
If you can't tell, I hate non-con. I hate it because that won't happen in real life. I know that's a bit hypocritcal, considering how much I love men getting pregnant, which will also never happen, but I can explain this I think.
See, for me yaoi is about two things. Sex and emotion. The sex part is pretty obvious. I enjoy reading the porny side of it. As for emotions, I enjoy watching the emotions these two boys feel as they fall head over heels for each other. I love fics that make these emotions feel real. A good fic in my opinion should be able to leave you emotionally bankrupt as well.
But a noncon in which the uke loves every minute of it isn't going to get that emotional pull. So if the writer wants me to enjoy it they better have some fucking awesome sex scenes, which is even harder, because for me rape is a major turn off. (To this date there is only one non-con I have read and liked, despite it falling into this category. I believe it is called Under the Chains, and it is on Fanfiction.net. It is a Cloud/Seph fic, and I believe it is in the Kingdom Hearts category, because it has a lot of Kingdom Heart characters. )
Rarely do I find a story that is rape where it manages to pull off the emotional side of it. Why? Because rape is a complex thing. Not only do you have to find a reason for Character X to rape Character Y, but then Character Y has to deal with the aftermath. Character Y should feel dirty. Perhaps Y think's it's his fault he was raped? Or maybe he is afraid of his friends finding out? Did Y know X before it happened? How does Y react to X now?
As always I urge you to do your research before you write. Even just reading the wikipedia page on rape will tell you some basic things Y should go through. Try to find a story someone told about themselves being raped. Put yourself in the situation. What would you do if your best friend raped you? Could you forgive them? Would you be able to interact with them again?
In closing I want to send you all to an amazing rape fic (it's Draco/Harry with Vernon/Harry rape). This one fic can honestly help you more than I can by asking questions. I have only made it halfway through chapter 2 at the time of posting this, but I believe it will continue it's amazing portrayal of how someone reacts to rape.

Procrastination, Procrastination, Procrastination. Or when life goes to hell...(For those who prentend not to procrastinate)
As you might can see, I've failed there.
Why? Why did my blogging take such a back seat? After all, I have plenty to talk about writing, a few reviews, and even some off topic rambling that could easily fill these pages, with something that would at least tell you lovely people that I'm still breathing.
Because life went to hell in a handbasket and I did NOTHING about it. I watched life pass by, as I wallowed away in projects that I knew I couldn't finish. I barely write. I didn't update. I didn't do anything.
Now of course this is somewhat understandable. I had a convention that all my friends expected me to organize, I was trying to organize a doujinshi order, I had two major school projects, and on top of all that, I'm almost 18 and I'm attempting to make some nice big plans for my birthday other than going to Borders and buying all their wrapped yaoi books. (It should be a blast if I can finish it all. I'm trying to do a fic dump on my account that day. I'll post links when/if it happens.)
But still on the other hand, when life gives you lemons, make yaoi. It works. Some of my favorite times during my stressed periods would be to pull out a spiral throw my to write list out the window and write what I want. Sure I have the start to several stories and scenes that I'll never probably finish, but it was a nice break to write for myself once again.
Anyways, I'm back, and I should be doing a review dump in the next several days, seeing as I bought 7 doujinshis, 2 books, one manga, and have a service and convention to review. So I'll site down soon and review them, however the doujinshi might be hard, since my computer is stuck in the den where my family can see what I'm doing, and can see what I'm reading.
See ya soon! I promise I'm back this time!

The 3 Trimesters of Mpreg...
So before you ask, I am for mpreg. I have written one completely and am writing 3 more at the moment. I am a major fan, and there are some amazing ones out there. However, often a writer won't know what to do, or how pregnancies will work.
So I broke it into three parts, or trimesters if you will - conception, pregnancy, delievery. All three are important, and all must be thought about in depth.
1. Conception- How did your uke get pregnant? What miricle brought this upon him? Is he happy or not? These are some basic questions you'll need to ask before you start your mpreg. Generally men get pregnant in fiction because they aren't human. Take any SOLDIER from Final Fantasy VII. You can claim that they aren't technically human anymore because of the Mako injections. Or if the character is an angel or demon.
Also consider how the uke realizes he's preggers. Men don't normally take a pregnancy test. Did they do blood work because he was constantly ill? Or did he not realize till he was in labor? (hey... it could happen!) Perhaps it's something common in their world and they took a test? Or maybe someone told them they sounded like a pregnant girl, and it got their mind working. Whatever it is, make sure it's plausible. Most readers have a built in bullshit meter which mpreg is quite likely to set off if it's not well thought out.
2. The actual pregnancy - Too many times writers don't research pregnancy, and the uke starts showing within a month. Or he gets too sick too soon. Or delievers too quickly.
Between the conception and delevery is the endless research that you NEED. What sort of cravings should the poor uke have? When will he begin to show? How will his hormones affect him?
There are bound to be blogs about being pregnant somewhere on this grand place we call the internet. Read them! They will help you understand what women go through when pregnant, so just adapt it to your uke's situation and all will be well.
3. Delievery - Eventually that baby is going to have to come out, but how?
- C-section - Honestly this is the most plausible, unless you plan to give the uke the necessary plumbing to deliever a child. But as always RESEARCH it before you write it. Know how bloody it should be, where the cuts are, and what the uke will have to do for it.
- Don't describe it - This is the easiest way. Why? Because you don't have to know how the child was delievered either. No siree! All you have to do is write about the nervous seme as his lover goes through childbirth. This is a good time for a revilation on how he treated his uke, or even an epic battle. Just anything to happen while the uke gives birth and destract the readers from the poor crying man going through labor.
- "Natural" Birth - Umm... Not quite so natural, but it's always an option to give a man plumbing. Normally this would be done by magic, or genetic enginering. Or you have passage way out. I don't like it however. I mean, imagine the last time it hurt to give a shit. How big was that shit? less than half the size of a baby? Double that pain and discomfort for a longer time, with an audience... Sound pleasant? No. So let's go with a vagina or c-section!
All of this is important to writing an mpreg. Enough rambling for now. I have an mpreg to write. Little Angelina Nicole Phantomhive Michealis needs to be born! Please feel free to comment!

Muse Hunting
By now, some of you are probably wondering why you're reading my insanity. Part of this insanity was brought on by a whole day in front of the computer going "I want to write. What should I write?" I have a list of 25 (and growing!) plot ideas some of which date all the way back to December. They span three fandoms and at least 10 pairings. They range in depth from PWP (porn without point) to deep angishing motif filled philosophy. And yet I couldn't write.
I had no inspiration. I would choose a prompt, and the scenes would start to fill my head, but I couldn't figure out where to start describing them. The words wouldn't come. I sat there for 5 hours, fingers poised, waiting for some sort of story to start writing itself.
There has to be some sort of solution to this. I hate days like these when I want to write, and can see the great potential of an idea, but yet not be able to get it out. Luckily there is. It's just that in my stupidity I decided against using one of these cures.
- Do something else for a while - In essence I am doing that now, by writing this, but whenever the ideas won't come, get up and go do something else. Get out of the fandom! Honestly reading Ciel/Sebastian fics didn't help me write one. Reading Yamamoto/Gokudera doujinshi didn't help me write the story that I have promised someont for tomorrow. (Not that I want to work on that one anyways. The prompt is Yama/Goku and leapard print socks. Not good when my mind wants to angst.) I find it quite helpful to get up and do some exercise. It gets the chemicals in my brain flowing better.
- Change something - Especially if your sitting at a desktop, you probably have the same view, the same music, and the same people around you. Change it up a bit. Switch to a new artist. Change the decorations. Move to another room. Do something. Get something new to flood your senses.
- Smelly good stuff- Your sense of smell is amazing. If I'm ever stuck I open some windows and light some insense. Insense will flood a room faster than a candle, and stick around longer. (Hence me opening the windows so it doesn't still smell like "romance" three days later) Smells and candles will help to create a more romantic mood, especially good for writing yaoi romance. (Not quite so good for writing Non-con, or adventure. Generally those don't have passionate romance in them.)
- Write by Hand - Yes, I know that you'll then have to type it up, but thus is the curse of writing. Hand writing is more personal than typing. It allows you to doodle on the page edges, write questions to your self, and fling your pen and paper across the room with minimum monetary damage. It also makes your brain slow down and think more because it'll take longer to commit each sentense to a medium. (If you really want to slow down, try writing with your nondominant hand. It cuts me down to half speed, and I'm pretty dexerous with both hands!)
- Plot something new - This is the one that broke me out of my curse. My co-conspirator Kenzie texted me, and we started talking about foot fetishes. This topic molded into a story, which molded into a series, all based on Mukuro having fetishes. Around this time, the dam on my thoughts broke, and I was finally able to start slowly working on fixing my Gokudera/Tsuna non-con. (Coming to a FFn account near you!)
Also if you read, please comment, and leave a link to any of your writing! I would love to see what you've done!

Ethos... aka who am I, and why should you care?
Luckily, this is not philosophy class, and I'm not that deep. No. I am simply a writer. A teenager. A yaoi fanatic. And that my dear reader, is the topic of this blog. Yaoi writing. I have been writing yaoi for about a year and a half now, and while I would certainly not call myself an expert, I do believe I know more about it than the average Jane.
It is my goal that through this blog, that a few people get some ideas or realize some way that they can inprove their writing. I intend to explain the ends and outs of smut, relationships, and basic grammer, as well as occasionally rant about things that are wrong in the yaoi world.
Now, just a bit about the blog. To the side you will see information about me, who follows me, the archive, and a list of yaoi that I enjoyed. This list will include links to doujinshi, manga, fanfics, or even just pictures. I hope that you ejoy my blog, and thank you for dropping by!
